The Fisher Archives preserves and makes accessible the history of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ. Materials include campus publications, planning documents, correspondence, meeting minutes, photographs, audiovisual materials, ephemera, artifacts, oral histories, scrapbooks, digital files, and much more.

Fisher Digital Publications

Fisher Digital Publications promotes the discovery, sharing, and preservation of the intellectual and creative works of the faculty, students, and staff of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ. Administered by the Library, Fisher Digital Publications organizes, preserves, and increases the impact of scholarly and creative work.

Special Collections

Lavery Library holds a number of valuable and historically important materials. Special Collections include:

  • George P. Decker papers, 1763-1941 - a collection of professional papers from Decker’s career as a lawyer focusing on land claims and rights of Indigenous peoples. Materials include correspondence, legal documents, financial papers, historical references, notes, photographs, newspaper clippings, publications, and more. Decker’s legal practice extended throughout New York State and into southern Ontario, Canada. Of particular note is the documentation of Decker’s working relationship with Levi General (often called “Deskaheh”) and the Six Nations of the Grand River as they sought to bring the plight of Indigenous people to the attention of the newly-formed League of Nations in the early 1920s. 
  • Theodore C. Cazeau Grand Army of the Republic collection, 1863-1935 - documents the activities of Theodore C. Cazeau and his involvement with the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and later, the Sons of Union Veterans organizations, for which he was elected national commander-in-chief in 1929. The collection, which spans the years 1863 to 1935, includes correspondence, photographic material, printed material, manuscripts, clippings, textiles, and artifacts.
  • Rochester Radio History collection, 1922-2007 - contains historic documents, photographs, scrapbooks, and audio materials specific to the radio broadcasting industry in Rochester, New York, with a special emphasis on WHAM history and personalities. Audio is available of interviews with people in the areas of radio production, management, and on-air personalities, as well as radio shows and broadcasts. (Digitization of audio is ongoing.)
  • Frederick Douglass collection, c. 1848-1874 - abolitionist newspapers, rare books, photographs, and more. (Many of the newspapers have been digitized and are accessible online via .) 
  • Anti-slavery and abolitionist newspaper collection, c. 1836-1865 - anti-slavery and abolitionist newspapers, including the African Repository and Colonial Journal, American and Foreign Anti-Slavery Reporter, Christian Investigator, National Anti-Slavery Standard, Radical Abolitionist, The Emancipator, and The Liberator. (Many of these newspapers have been digitized and are accessible online via .) 
  • Susan B. Anthony collection, c. 1861-1899 - issues of The Revolution, books related to women’s suffrage, and a multi-volume biography of Susan B. Anthony. 
  • Book of Kells (orig. 800 AD, repro. 1990) - facsimile copy of original Book of Kells, housed at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Our copy was purchased in 1991 as a gift to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ and the Rochester Community by Irish immigrants, Irish-American descendants, friends, and members of the Monroe County Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Ladies Auxiliary. The facsimile at Lavery Library is Number 765 of a limited edition of 1480 books worldwide.
