Application Details

Program Eligibility

Admission to the dual-degree AGACNP/CRNA program is limited to qualified students who have: 

• A cumulative GPA of 3.0. GPA of 3.3 or higher is preferred.
• Grades of B or higher in the following undergraduate courses: health assessment, research (evidence-based practice), and statistics.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
• Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in New York State or proof that it is in progress at the time of application.
• A minimum of one year of critical care experience and currently employed in one of the following ICU settings: CCU/CVICU, MICU, Neuro ICU, SICU, Burn ICU, Trauma ICU or PICU.
  • While valuable, NICU, ER, OR, Flight Nursing and PACU experiences are not accepted.
  • For those living outside the U.S., only ICU experience within a U.S. military hospital is accepted.
• Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
• Certification as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) is not required but strongly recommended.

• Current résumé.
• Unencumbered RN license in NYS
• Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
• CCRN certification (recommended but not required)
  • Upload certification showing expiration date. Score reports are not needed.
• Two recommendations. You will be prompted to assign your recommenders within the online application.
  • One reference must be from a current nurse manager or medical director from your ICU of employment.
  • One reference must be from an advanced practice nurse practitioner, physician's associate/assistant, nurse anesthetist, or critical care physician.
    • Note: If you list three recommenders, your application will not be considered complete until all three recommendations have been received.
• Professional Education Statement that includes:
  
  • Your reasons for applying to the CRNA program.
  • Your long- and short-term educational and professional goals and how the CRNA program will help you reach those goals.
  • How your degree will enhance your experience.
  • How you plan to accommodate the program’s rigorous curriculum with all of your competing activities and doctoral study.
  • The population you would like to focus on for your CRNA project and describe one clinical problem related to the population that your project will help address.
  • How, as a doctorally prepared advanced practice nurse, you will contribute (e.g., through education, research, and practice) to enhance the health and quality of life for people of all cultures, economic levels, and geographic locations.

Interview Process

Selected applicants will receive information on how to schedule an interview after the submission and review of a completed application. A maximum of 60 finalists will be accepted for interviews per year. Interviews will be conducted on campus, in person. No Zoom options will be made available. During the interview, you will meet with the nurse anesthesia faculty members. Expect the interview to last about 90 minutes. Interviewees should expect to take a short quiz.
